Baramati Buzz Intensifies as Speculation of Rebellion in Sharad Pawar Camp Gains Momentum

Political speculation has intensified in Maharashtra after the visit of Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar and Parth Pawar to New Delhi sparked discussions of possible defections from the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party. With talks of shifting loyalties and merger differences, attention has turned to Baramati as political uncertainty deepens ahead of the Monsoon Session.

Political tensions have intensified following reports of dissent among Members of Parliament belonging to Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress in West Bengal and Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena UBT in Maharashtra. Amid discussions in political circles that the National Democratic Alliance government's strength in the Lok Sabha could reach 360 by the Monsoon Session, the recent visit of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar and her son Parth Pawar to New Delhi has triggered fresh speculation in the state. Attention has now shifted to Baramati, with discussions emerging over whether a wave of rebellion could spread to the camp led by Sharad Pawar.

Political circles are abuzz with claims that, similar to the developments in Shiv Sena UBT, Members of Parliament from the Nationalist Congress Party led by Sharad Pawar could shift allegiance to the Nationalist Congress Party headed by Sunetra Pawar. Sharad Pawar's party currently has eight Members of Parliament, and speculation suggests that five of them could change sides. Among those being discussed is Supriya Sule, who is presently the Working President of the Nationalist Congress Party led by Sharad Pawar.

According to discussions within political circles, leaders of the original Nationalist Congress Party are not in favour of a merger, which has prevented any further progress on that front. Supriya Sule had defeated Sunetra Pawar in the Lok Sabha elections. Following the death of Ajit Pawar, both families had moved closer, but efforts towards a merger did not materialise.

The developments have fuelled fresh political debate in Maharashtra, with growing speculation over the future of the Sharad Pawar-led faction and the possibility of further realignments ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
